Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

10th Anniversary Grants

In recognition of its 10th year of grant-making in 2007, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation awarded grants to two organizations that presented unique and compelling opportunities to increase the public's knowledge and understanding about the work supported by DDCF:

  • National Public Radio NPR's broadcasting priorities overlap with many of the foundation's grant-making interests, thus helping to increase public understanding of relevant and timely issues, as well as the foundation's areas of focus. DDCF awarded a grant to NPR of $1.5 million over 2 years to provide general support for its news programming and to help underwrite its Climate Connections series.

  • New York Public Library for the Performing Arts
As a national resource that documents performances in all three of the Arts Program's core fields of contemporary dance, jazz and theatre, the library is uniquely positioned to preserve for future generations some of the most significant DDCF-funded works and the stories behind their creation. DDCF awarded a grant of $1 million over two years to document DDCF-funded works and conduct oral histories of DDCF-funded artists in contemporary dance, jazz and theater for its collections, as well as preserve deteriorating archival footage of Martha Graham.

The grants described above were special grants awarded in the context of the foundation's 10th anniversary.
