Mayor's Award for Arts & Culture

On October 6, 2009, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg presented the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation with a 2009 Mayor's Award for Arts & Culture for extraordinary support of New York City's dance, jazz and theatre artists, and the nonprofit organizations that nurture, produce and present them (Mayor's Office Press Release).

DDCF is proud to support hundreds of New York City’s performing artists and arts organizations. DDCF funding has helped nurture a diverse range of the vibrant artists, companies and arts organizations working throughout the city, including, among many others, 651 Arts, Asia Society, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dance Theatre Workshop, Harlem Stage, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Pregones Theater, The Public Theater, Repertorio Español and Queens Theatre in the Park.

DDCF also has developed long-standing partnerships with national organizations based in New York City – including Chamber Music America, Creative Capital Foundation, EmcArts, Nonprofit Finance Fund and Theatre Communications Group – to provide funding and services to artists and nonprofit arts groups across the U.S.

Through direct grants and re-granting programs, the foundation’s Arts Program – which is national in scope – has provided approximately $206 million in support of more than 2,200 projects in dance, jazz, presenting and theatre throughout the country.
