Core Support for National Organizations

Strategy

DDCF provides core support to select national arts organizations whose work is critical for the health of the dance, jazz, presenting and/or theatre fields.

Grant Details

Grants support up to 10% of an organization's annual operating budget, and can be used for general operating expenses and/or cash reserves.

In 2007, DDCF awarded core support grants totaling
$5 million to eight national organizations.

Process

In June 2007, the Arts Program invited a group of organizations that had a prior funding relationship with the foundation to submit proposals for core support (see RFP).

Applicants were asked to identify their organizational objectives for the next four years, a plan for achieving those objectives, and benchmarks against which progress toward those objectives can be measured.

Proposals were reviewed by a panel of outside reviewers in September 2007, which recommended applicants for funding based on multiple criteria (including impact on the national field, organizational capacity, quality of strategic planning, and quality of leadership).

Eligibility & Future Grants

Only organizations that have a prior funding relationship with DDCF are eligible to apply for core support grants. New applications will not be accepted for core support in 2009.
