A major goal of the Child Abuse Prevention Program is to increase the number of effective and innovative methods for preventing child abuse and neglect.
To accomplish this goal, the Child Abuse Prevention Program may support the following types of activities:
- Demonstration projects;
- Development of new prevention service strategies;
- Innovative projects that specifically address the challenging problem of neglect, which constitutes two-thirds of child maltreatment cases and has not declined as significantly as physical and sexual abuse over the past decade.
Prior grants awarded in this area have supported new initiatives that address the problem of infant crying and new approaches that integrate an array of prevention activities into early education and child care settings.
