The mission of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) is to improve the quality of people's lives through grants supporting the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research and the prevention of child abuse, and through preservation of the cultural and environmental legacy of Doris Duke's properties. In effort to achieve this mission, the foundation supports four national grant-making programs: the Arts Program, the Child Abuse Prevention Program, the Environment Program and the Medical Research Program. It also supports the African Health Initiative as well as the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, which has one grant-making program: the Building Bridges Program. All the before-mentioned programs and initiatives are headquartered in DDCF’s New York office. Learn more below.

Arts

The mission of the Arts Program is to support artists with the creation and public performance of their work.

Child Abuse Prevention

The mission of the Child Abuse Prevention Program is to promote children’s healthy development and protect them from abuse and neglect.

Environment

The mission of the Environment Program is to enable communities to protect and manage wildlife habitat and create efficient built environments.

Medical Research

The mission of the Medical Research Program is to support the prevention, treatment and cure of human disease.

Building Bridges

The mission of the Building Bridges Program is to increase the public’s understanding of contemporary Muslim societies through the arts.

African Health Initiative

The mission of the African Health Initiative is to improve health and strengthen health systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
