Jeffrey Heil

Chief Investment Officer

Jeffrey Heil is the chief investment officer for the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The investment team at the foundation manages a $1.8 billion portfolio, investing in all asset classes, while the foundation also holds three operating properties in Hillsborough, New Jersey; Newport, Rhode Island; and Honolulu, Hawaii, with an estimated market value of $200 million.

Prior to joining the foundation in 2003, Heil was co-head of investments at the University of California, where he actively managed equity holdings in three portfolios with $25 billion in total assets as well as oversaw an additional $15 billion in externally managed funds. Prior to joining the University of California, Heil was a vice president of equity management for Victory Capital in Cleveland and a corporate finance consultant for McKinsey & Co. In New York, he was manager of the Valuations Group at Arthur Andersen & Co. and started his career as a securities analyst at Arnold Bernhard and Company. 

Heil earned a Bachelor of Arts in government, summa cum laude, from Ohio University and was selected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. At New York University’s Stern School of Business, he was awarded the Marcus Nadler Fellowship and received a Master of Business Administration in finance.
