Sindy Escobar Alvarez, Program Director for Medical Research, Advises on "Strategies for Inclusive Grantmaking" in Nature Medicine

Nature Medicine published a commentary on strategies for inclusive grantmaking coauthored by members of the Health Research Alliance, including the Health Research Alliance's board chair, Sindy Escobar Alvarez, who is also program director for medical research at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. In the commentary, Escobar Alvarez and her coauthors from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, Arthritis Foundation and the TSC Alliance provide recommendations and best practices for funders on how to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in the biomedical research workforce through three main areas: demographic data collection and use; increasing the diversity of the applicant and awardee pools; and reducing bias in peer review.
