The historic campus of University of Pennsylvania served as the backdrop for the commemoration of the CRF class of 2007-2008.
Following dinner on the first night, keynote speaker Arthur H. Rubenstein, MBBCh, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Executive Vice President of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, gave a welcoming speech sharing his lessons learned during his career journey.
Over a day and a half, 94 fellows gathered at Houston Hall on Penn’s campus with program leaders and administrators to present their research in both podium and poster sessions. In between these sessions were outstanding talks by two distinguished faculty from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, Jean Bennett, MD, PhD, and Daniel J. Rader, MD.
To acknowledge the productive year, the fellows, program leaders, and administrators gathered at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia for a tour of the Mutter Museum, reception, and dinner. During dinner a slideshow highlighted the work of the International CRF pilot program fellows. A graduation ceremony was held following dinner.
The meeting concluded with a panel session: “Opportunities for Research During Residency." Residency directors and a past Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow, who is conducting research during her residency, offered a range of views for fellows to think about when considering research projects during residency, as well as the career paths they had each taken.

Fellows spoke with program leaders in breakout sessions about navigating career paths, picking a mentor and negotiating the mentor-mentee relationship, and balancing career/life choices.
