Valerie BaileyProgram Associate for the Arts
Valerie Bailey is the program associate for the arts at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, where she supports the program manager in the day-to-day operation of the Doris Duke Artist Awards Program and serves a key administrative role for the overall Arts Program grants portfolio. Prior to joining DDCF in 2017, Bailey worked at Creative Capital supporting the grant making, event planning, communications and operations for a program, funded by DDCF, that offered unrestricted, flexible funding to artists.
Bailey is also a professional choreographer and dancer whose most recent work, “Porch Swing Melodies,” premiered in New York in 2018 and used stories of land, beauty, family history and childhood in West Virginia to paint a nuanced portrait of her home state and reveal the dialogue between rural and urban lives. Bailey’s previous performance work commemorated her grandmother’s experience with and raised awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and premiered in New York in 2016 after its initial premier in West Virginia in 2012. Bailey graduated summa cum laude with honors from West Virginia University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology and a minor in dance.
