Betsy Myers, Ph.D.

Program Director for Medical Research

Betsy Myers is program director for medical research at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, where she oversees a research portfolio of approximately $70 million in active grants. 

Myers joined the foundation in 2005 and was appointed program director for medical research in 2010. She is a past chair of the Board of Directors of the Health Research Alliance and recently participated in the following committees: the Institute of Medicine Forum on Drug Discovery, Development, and Translation; the Advisory Board of the Clinical Research Training Institute of the American Society of Hematology; the Initiative for Women in Science and Engineering Working Group; the Working Group on Ethics Guidelines for Global Health Training; an IOM planning meeting for the Responsible Sharing of Clinical Research Data; FASEB’s Sustaining Discovery in Biological and Medical Sciences Roundtable, and as an ad-hoc member of NIH study sections.

Before joining the foundation, Myers spent two decades as a researcher in academic medical centers. She received a Bachelor of Science from Duke University and a doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She held academic appointments as instructor and assistant professor at Harvard Medical School from 1990-1998 and associate professor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University from 1999-2005.
