What We Support
The Environment Program takes several separate but interrelated approaches to funding work that advances its mission. To accelerate land conservation at a critical time for mitigating climate change, the program supports endeavors that establish rigorous frameworks and concrete examples of how practitioners can protect biodiversity and address the climate crisis. In addition, we fund concerted efforts to ensure that clean-energy facilities are built in ways that do not destroy or fragment wildlife habitat more than necessary. We also fund a small number of initiatives that focus on increasing the resiliency of natural areas and communities to climate change and on fostering sustainable agriculture systems in the Tri-State area. In order to encourage an effective and inclusive conservation movement, which is critical to improving outcomes for both people and wildlife, we support a number of initiatives focused on increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the conservation field. Finally, through a special initiative, we aim to promote “natural climate solutions” as an effective means to mitigate climate change.
