A new opinion piece in Philanthropy News Digest details a recent partnership between the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Justice Outside and the William Penn Foundation to illustrate ways philanthropy can increase support, lower barriers and maximize impact for environmental work by Black, Indigenous and people of color-led (BIPOC) organizations. Coauthors Danielle Levoit, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation program officer for the environment; Kim Moore Bailey, Justice Outside president and CEO; and Michele Perch, program officer for watershed protection at the William Penn Foundation, noted a variety of approaches funders can take, including, but not limited to, seeking out innovative philanthropic partnerships, implementing novel approaches to grantmaking that come with fewer restrictions and reducing the amount of labor involved in the application process.
